As far back as the mid-1800s the Suir Valley was well known as one of the best areas in the country for growing fruit.
As a result, the fruit class at the Iverk Show were always well supported. In fact, at the 1921 show there were more than 20 classes of apples for different varieties. Prize winners that year included R Dalton, T O’Donnell, M Tector, Isaac Tector, Mrs Butler, J Murphy, Mrs Duggan and Mrs Walsh.
