A massive prize fund of over €56,500 will be paid out to exhibitors in the cattle section this year, well up from last year’s show.

A new €100,000 four-year partnership has been agreed with lead sponsor Aldi in association with ABP Food Group and the Irish Angus Cattle Society for the Aldi Irish Angus All Ireland Bull Calf Championships until 2022.

Since 2015 Aldi, ABP Food Group, and the Irish Angus Cattle Society has seen a 40% increase in entries in the finals at the Iverk Show.                                                                                                With 12 qualifying shows around Ireland and six qualifying from each show, we should end up with 72 of Irelands finest Irish Angus bulls on parade. What a sight to behold!

That alone is more than the total prize fund of any regular class at any of the agricultural shows around Ireland.

Also included in this championship is an all-Ireland young stockperson of the year competition and a Junior young handlers’ competition.

The cream of six other beef breeds on exhibit at Iverk 2019 will be top breeders of Simmental, Limousin, Blonde Aquitaine, Charolais, Hereford, Shorthorn. The AXA Insurance pedigree inter-breed beef championship finishes the beef judging nicely.

The commercial breeds will be well represented at Irelands oldest show with a total generous prize fund of €12,150

The popular Friesian classes will have a total prize fund of €10,565, including a new class. The pedigree/non-pedigree, dual purpose type bull/heifer born after Jan. 1st2019 has a prize fund of €600.

The Deloitte Iverk Championship is the final highlight of the cattle classes. The winner is chosen from the dairy champion, the pedigree inter-breed beef champion and the commercial champion. The champion receives the Matty Walsh Memorial Trophy and €350.

The future of Agricultural shows in this Country is in the hands of the young. Iverk 2019 includes classes for young handlers from age 12 to 26 years to display their skills in handling livestock.

Macra na Feirme will again be involved in a stock judging competition for its members in the commercial cattle ring.
